“Quantum Mechanics is the study of how particles at the atomic and subatomic level interact with each other and their environment. The observer effect is the phenomenon in which the act of observation alters the behavior of the particles being observed. This effect is due to the wave-like nature of matter, which means that particles can exist in multiple states simultaneously. When an observer measures a particular property of a particle, they are effectively collapsing the wave-function of that particle, causing it to assume a definite state.” -Venkatesh Vaidyanathan

Basically it states that the very act of observing something can change that very thing on a subatomic level. Observing particles affects their behavior. Scientists are just starting to un-peel this connection between mind and matter. It amazingly supports that we are indeed creating our reality through our intentions and the concept is mind boggling. Imagine the future implications.

“When a quantum ‘observer’ is watching, electrons behave in a different way then when not observed. This can be true for electrons at the sub-micron level, i.e., at distances measuring less than one micron, or one-thousandth of a millimeter. When behaving as waves, electrons can simultaneously pass through several openings in a barrier and then meet again on the other side. This meeting is known as interference. Now, the most absurd thing about this phenomena is that it can only occur when no one is observing it. Once an observer begins to watch the particles going through the opening, the obtained image changes dramatically… In other words, when under observation, electrons are more or less being forced to behave like particles instead of waves. Thus, the mere act of observation affects the experimental findings.” -Venkatesh Vaidyanathan

So how does this relate to horse training?

Because of my 20+ years practicing equine acupuncture and energy medicine, I am particularly tuned into energetic shifts and how our own energy can affect the environment around us, including our horses. So while quantum physics is catching up to what I feel everyday, we have all experienced this first hand. Maybe it was the high energy client that comes into the barn and gets all the horses riled up. Or the angry worker who all the horses are leery of even if the worker doesn’t act out with the horses. It can also happen the other way. A calm, peaceful person has all the horses “eating out of their hand” so to speak.

At the heart math institute they have measured the electromagnetic resonance that our hearts radiates out about 4 feet around us. Their research “demonstrates that different patterns of heart activity have different effects on your thoughts and behaviors.” And you can change your heart coherence through exercises to bring your body, mind and emotions into balance. By bringing awareness and presence to ourselves we can actually influence our own biochemistry and electromagnetic resonance! And anything within our biosphere will “feel” these effects. This is cool stuff! As quantum mechanics catches up to fully explain these concepts on a physics level, evidence is mounting up on how we can actually affect not only our own bodies health and vibration but we can also affect those around us (human and animal).

So actually practicing presence can affect our very own energy field and therefore affect everything we come in contact with. That’s why when you actually change the way you look at things, those things change. When you start looking at the world with more gratitude, you actually have more to be grateful for. When you look at your horse with more compassion, the energies align to open the pathway for a better connection. When your heart is emanating a calm state, you can bring that to your horse. You have seen it. The “horse whisperer” doesn’t seem to do anything but the horse immediately settles in their presence.

The cool thing. This can be learned. This can be taught.

Have you ever been the in the presence of someone who has a good energy about them? It’s amazing. What about being in the presence of a horse that had a good energy about them? A little side note…studies are showing that our horse’s biosphere is very large and can explain why we love being around them so much.

Then, have you ever experienced that when you start to change your perspective on something that the universe starts showing you more instances of that very thing. It’s like you never saw it before and now you see it everywhere. When you change the way you look at your horse, you actually create a real change. Your perception is not just a passive act but an actual creation.

So imagine how powerful this can be when working with your horse. Here at Reflections From The Saddle we are here to help you change that perspective. To open your heart to what is possible and then to give you the path to find it!
